Back in London

We’ve been back in London for a week now; first unwinding, then starting work again (in between cooking comfort food regularly for the first time, washing clothes in an actual washing machine, and fighting Goombas in Super Paper Mario). Today we went to Shoreditch for lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant - the lemonade brought back memories.

We were shocked to hear today of the bridge collapse in the Mekong Delta town of Can Tho we’d just visited at the end of July. More than 50 people have died. The bridge was being built to replace the long-running ferry service across the Hau River that connects the town to Vinh Long. We’d crossed the river via the ferry and I briefly remember seeing the bridge being built in the distance; something that was going to better connect the two localities. Can Tho was one of our favourite places, even though we were only there for a couple of days. So I wasn’t surprised to hear that several thousand people have queued up to donate blood to help the survivors of this tragic occurrence.
